About This Role
Position Summary
ECC Corporation is seeking a highly qualified Railroad Track Inspector with demonstrated experience under 49 CFR Part 213.7 to support freight and passenger rail operations. This role is responsible for conducting regulatory track inspections, identifying safety-critical defects, and ensuring compliance with all applicable FRA standards.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in track structure, CWR, and inspection protocols, along with the ability to take immediate remedial action when required to maintain safe train operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform FRA Part 213-compliant track inspections including main track, sidings, and turnouts in accordance with prescribed frequencies and class standards.
- Conduct and document Continuous Welded Rail (CWR) inspections, including monitoring for rail stress, temperature-related risks, and compliance with railroad-specific CWR plans.
- Identify, classify, and document defects in rail, ties, ballast, fasteners, and track geometry; determine appropriate remedial actions per FRA regulations.
- Execute or coordinate immediate corrective actions and minor field repairs to protect train operations and maintain compliance.
- Ensure safe passage of trains by verifying track conditions meet or exceed regulatory requirements prior to and during operations.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and defensible inspection records and reports in accordance with FRA and client requirements.
- Coordinate with railroad personnel, dispatchers, contractors, and project teams to support ongoing maintenance and construction activities.
- Serve as a field representative for ECC, interfacing with client personnel and regulatory authorities as needed.
- Support special inspections including post-disturbance, weather-related events, or construction-related track conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Qualified under 49 CFR Part 213.7 as a Railroad Track Inspector (required).
- Demonstrated experience performing FRA track inspections and CWR inspections.
- Strong working knowledge of FRA Part 213 Track Safety Standards and railroad-specific practices.
- Ability to identify defects, assign proper remedial actions, and assess risk to train operations.
- Experience with track components including rail, ties, ballast, fasteners, joints, and turnouts.
- Proven ability to maintain detailed and compliant inspection documentation.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in active rail environments.
- Commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
Work Environment & Travel
This is a field-based role with work performed in active rail corridors. Projects are located in various locations, with coverage shared across multiple inspectors. The position requires the ability to travel and work varying schedules, including nights or weekends as required. The candidate must be able to operate company-provided inspection vehicles.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range is $70,000 to $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. ECC provides a company inspection vehicle, necessary tools, and health, dental, and vision insurance.
